Licensure Testing Policy Update (September 17, 2015)
80 Contact Hours (8.0 CEU’s) each five year renewal cycle is required
All certified teachers and support staff must complete 2 credits (20 hours) of technology – LEA requirement
All certified teachers and support staff must complete 3 credits (30 hours) in academic content.
If you teach math, you must have 30 hours of math professional development
If you are a media coordinator, you must have 30 hours of content that relates to what you teach in the media center
If you are a school counselor, you must have 30 hours of professional development that relates to your field
All Elementary and Middle School Teachers must have 3 credits (30 hours) in literacy.
Literacy includes professional development in:
Evidence Based Assessments
Examples – If you teach PE, you must have 30 hours of literacy. If you teach science, you must have 30 hours of literacy.
All Pre-K, 9-12, and Support Staff will complete 3 credit (30 hours) in general credits (you will notice the literacy requirement has been eliminated)
School Administrators – 8.0
30 hours must be completed in Standards 2, 4 and 5; 20 hours in technology and 30 hours general
National Board Certification will be sufficient for renewal. If you do not need the credit during the 5-year cycle you are currently in—you may bank the credit for the next 5-year cycle. Renewal awards 2 credits (1 academic; 1 literacy). Please list this on your staff development log that you turn in.
BEGINNING TEACHERS – you are not required to accumulate credit until you are recommended for a Standard Professional II License and then your renewal process will begin.
